HISTORY
How GSS Began
The concept of the Grove Second Saturday events is the creative brain child of Larry Cole of ColeCom and Joan Ramsey of Blazon Studio. Both Larry and Joan have a sincere desire to see the downtown of Grove grow to become a thriving creative epicenter for both culture and commerce in the Grand Lake area. Together, these two sought out resources, council, and examples of other downtown communities which managed to successfully create similar environments in their downtown districts. In their search, Larry and Joan became familiar with the monumental success of the Kansas City Crossroads district and their First Friday events.
Larry and Joan worked together with other local organizations such as the Grove Chamber of Commerce, the Grand Lake Association, the Downtown Merchants' Association, the Downtown Revitalization Committee, and the City of Grove, as well as many of the downtown merchants, restaurants, and more to construct a marketing plan. The plan called for a series of monthly events on the second Saturday of each month which later took on the name: Grove Second Saturdays.
